I never imagined living anywhere but down the street from immediate family. That image especially held strong when thinking about growing our family. And yet, here we are living far away from both sides.
Before lock-down, I would travel every other month at a minimum to visit family in Florida. I remember it so clearly that before I started grad school I shared with my parents that I was worried about going to a school in Colorado and being so far away. While it was certainly a more time consuming travel day, compared to the 100's of short flight options when living in Georgia, I still made it a point to always get home regularly. I never intended of that stopping.
But nearly two years later, I still haven't been on a plane. We drove round-trip to Florida nearly a year ago and are still craving to see family in Illinois.
When the chance rose for most of our family to visit this past summer to meet Laila we were so excited! The last time we were all together was at our wedding. It was so special to have our little girl be the reason we found a way to see each other again.
This visit had so many special toasts. Cody graduated and started his new job in the spring, we moved into our home, my brother moved to Denver, and my sister got engaged to her high school sweetheart. Laila though took the most light as the newest little bundle of joy that we all want to squish all the time.
We very much missed having Auntie Paige and Uncle Chris and cannot wait for the boarders with Australia to re-open so we can be together again.
